Prostagenix is quite popular. But how does Prostagenix compare to VigRX Prostate Support?
If you're here, it might be because you've been searching for reviews or information on Prostagenix prostate support formula.
Or maybe you're here because, like me, you tried Prostagenix and it didn't work for you.
Prostagenix is highly promoted on television as the most effective solution for prostate issues. But is it really?
Prostagenix didn't work for me. And I wanted to find out why.
I started doing some "deep dive" research into prostate support supplements because I had tried a couple without the results they always talked about in the infomercials.
I had tried "Super Beta Prostate" after I heard about it on the radio. Older guys were raving about the stuff and how it helped them with all the usual symptoms.

But when I tried it, it didn't work for me.
So later, when I saw the Larry King infomercial on Prostagenix and how their spokesman - some football guy - said "the only ingredient that is worth considering is beta sitosterol" and how "Prostagenix has more beta sitosterol than all the others," I thought I'd give that a try.
It sounded good. But my results didn't live up to the hype. Prostagenix didn't work for me, either.

It didn't deliver results for me any better than the Super Beta Prostate. So what gives with that?
Well, first of all, I will say this:
I truly believe Prostagenix "works" for many men. Just not for everyone. And it's probably not "working" the way you would expect it should.
What I found in the data by medical professionals and in many studies is this: it seems the ingredients in Prostagenix are somewhat effective in reducing SYMPTOMS of prostate enlargement. But they're not the best at dealing with the ROOT CAUSE of the prostate issue: reducing prostate ENLARGEMENT.
It might make you FEEL better. And it might reduce the SYMPTOMS. (Perhaps it will, anyway, if they're not so far along? I don't know...)

But can you expect more from these products than just reducing symptoms?
Can they deal with reducing the ROOT CAUS of the symptoms? Can Prostagenix (and Super Beta Prostate, for that matter) deal with the actual enlargement issue? Does it do anything to reduce the SIZE of the prostate?
To me, that's all the difference in the world.
If I just mask the symptoms of enlargement but don't take something that actually inhibits prostate enlargement and even reduces prostate size, then it seems like it's just a matter of time until.... well, you know.
So what do these products promise to do? And do any of them actually deliver on their promises?
When I had used both Super Beta Prostate and Prostagenix for a while and they weren't doing for me what they promised to do, I wanted to find out what the claims were about.
And I also wanted to figure out if ANY of them would actually help me.
But I also wanted to understand what the REAL science was behind them.
Look. I don't know about you, but I'm a "science" guy. I don't just want the infomercial. I want to know what the facts and figures are.
Real science. Studies. Double-blind, controlled studies if they're out there.
Actual scientific data and results from controlled studies are what I was looking for. And I did find some good information about what these different ingredients have and have not been proven to do.

You want data from real medical professionals.
What do prostate supplements promise to do?
Well, maybe the first question you should ask yourself is this:
How many of these symptoms describe YOU?
- more frequent urges to urinate (and especially at night.... very annoying)
- difficulty or pain during urination
- difficulty starting urination
- weak urine stream or a stream that stops and starts
- dribbling at the end of urination
- inability to completely empty the bladder
- and (sometimes) resulting loss of "performance" sexually
Ideally, a prostate support supplement should address the real problems that come with age for most men.
More importantly, a good prostate support supplement should not just deal with improving symptoms of prostate enlargement.
It should actually address the root cause for the enlargement in the first place.

On the left: a healthy prostate. On the right: an enlarged prostate.
So, are there supplements that can actually reduce cell growth and size? Does Prostagenix do that?
Like I said, in an ideal world, you don't just want to eliminate the symptoms. YOU WANT TO ACTUALLY ADDRESS THE ROOT CAUSE.
If possible, you want to find a supplement that doesn't just eliminate prostate symptoms, but can help SHRINK the size of the prostate.
Can that happen? Can you actually see a reduction in the size of the prostate?
Let's take a look at some studies and see what they say. Because unlike what the football guy on the Larry King commercials tells you, it seems their ingredients might not be able to do that.
First, let's look at Prostagenix.
What do the NIH studies say about this "beta sitosterol" that is listed as the main active ingredient in Prostagenix?

As I've said before, the Prostagenix "claim to fame" is that "beta sitosterol is THE ONLY thing that matters," and "Prostagenix has more of it than any other supplement." So what do we see in the literature?
According to the NIH website, it looks like Beta Sitosterol is good for treating symptoms of BPH (benign prostate enlargement) but NOT for contributing to any reduction in size of the prostate.
In this article on the NIH website: "Nutraceutical treatment and prevention of BPH," it says, "Beta-sitosterol is a sterol able to improve urinary symptoms and flow measures, but not to reduce the size of the prostate gland."
Also from the NIH website, this article: a "systematic review" of Beta Sitosterol for the treatment of enlarged prostate.
In the article, they did 4 trials with a total of over 500 men. The result?
"... beta-sitosterol improved urinary symptom scores and flow..." The study showed that Beta Sitosterol DID:
- improve flow
- decrease frequency of urination
- allowed for better emptying of the bladder.
But, in the study, it clearly states that "beta-sitosterol did not reduce prostate size."
So it seems the ingredients in Prostagenix are good at masking symptoms. But the studies show that by itself, beta sitosterol does NOT help reduce prostate ENLARGEMENT.
Seems like football guy may have missed it. (And I know they have GLOWING testimonials about how it reduces symptoms. But for me, it wasn't doing that, either.)
Besides even if it does mask symptoms, you can only do it for so long if the root problem is getting worse.
It's kind of like pulling the battery out of the smoke detector because it keeps going off once in a while. You need to find out if there is a fire that needs to be dealt with.
If there are ingredients that can actually assist the body in reducing the growth of the prostate (or even reversing it!) then I want to know about that.
I don't just want to mask symptoms. I want to shrink that sucker if I can.
And now, the alternative: a formula with both Beta Sitosterol and some very helpful herbs.
So, what are the ingredients in VigRX Prostate Support and what are they supposed to do?
VigRX Prostate Support is one of a number of different products that are formulated with a host of ingredients. There are others I have also recommended in the past. But once I found the VigRX, it became the go-to formula I now recommend because it gives much better value for the money than the others I've found with similar ingredients.
The ingredients in VigRX Prostate Support include the main ingredient in Prostagenix, plus others:
- Beta Sitosterol (like in the Prostagenix and Super Beta Prostate), but also
- Stinging Nettle root
- Saw Palmetto
- Pumpkin seed extract
- Pygeum bark
- other fruits and herbs.
What I've discovered is that beta sitosterol is important. It's just not the whole solution by itself. The best solution is a combination of beta sitosterol and some other ingredients that work together for the optimum result.
It's what helped me.
And according to all the studies I found on the NIH website, it seems these other ingredients are VERY effective - both for symptom relief and treating ROOT CAUSE: stopping or reversing prostate SIZE.
Science can be complicated. But science can also be pushed and pulled in different directions.
Like I said, I think Prostagenix probably works for some people. But their football star spokesman interviewed on the Larry King special keeps insisting that the beta sitosterol is the only thing that matters.
It seems the doctors and scientists at the National Institutes of Health disagree.
There ARE some pretty hard study results I came across in doing this research. I realized that some of these ingredients included in some of these products do, in fact, make a real difference.
So, what ingredients actually DO make a difference?
There are a lot of ingredients in the VigRX Prostate Support and supplements similar to it. But I want to zero in on 4 specific ingredients that do seem to make a difference in reducing the size of the prostate and not merely in alleviating symptoms.
I want to zero in on these four ingredients, specifically because of the quality of the studies that were done with them. The four particular ingredients we need to look at are:
- stinging nettle,
- saw palmetto,
- pumpkin seed extract
- pygeum extract.
Is this a complete list? No. There are other ingredients in here, too. But these particular ones are of interest to me because of the quality of the studies done on these ingredients.
I consider these study results the most helpful because of how they were done.
The studies I considered here are extensive. They are typically double-blind studies.
For those not familiar with the term "double-blind study," it means some men in the study were given the real herbs being studied and some were given a placebo. And until the study was done, no one knew who got what.
But all of these studies used both measurements and objective result data to come to the conclusions they did: ultrasound tests, for instance, to measure urine flow, prostate size, etc.
That's a big deal. It's objective. It's not just a football player with an opinion.
Let's take a look at these ingredients and the study results that cover them.
1: Stinging Nettle

In an article on the NIH website called "A comprehensive review on the stinging nettle effect and efficacy profiles," they found some interesting stuff.
First, it seems the Stinging Nettle Root seems to work with sex hormones in the body to create the effect of reducing the prostate enlargement.
They also found that nettle root extract inhibited the growth of extra cells in the prostate.
And remember that the beta sitosterol (active ingredient in Prostagenix) doesn't do this by itself.
They also say that Nettle Root studies are many. But here is the important takeaway from this study: randomized, controlled studies indicate Nettle Root is effective in improving prostate complaints.
In a study by Mount Sanai Hospital, they say, "Stinging nettle root is used widely in Europe to treat BPH. Studies in people suggest that stinging nettle, in combination with other herbs (especially saw palmetto), may be effective at relieving symptoms such as reduced urinary flow, incomplete emptying of the bladder, post urination dripping, and the constant urge to urinate."
Summary on stinging nettle: effective at reducing symptoms AND reducing size of prostate and number of cells.
Next....
2: Saw Palmetto

The NIH has an interesting article looking at a controlled, couble-blind study (the best testing method, it seems) about Saw Palmetto.
The study had three groups of people in it. One part got a placebo; a second part got the Saw Palmetto by itself; the third part got the Saw Palmetto together with beta sitosterol.
There was a marked difference in benefit, mostly in the group that got the combination of beta sitosterol AND the Saw Palmetto. So it looks like the beta sitosterol is important as PART of the OVERALL INGREDIENT LIST. But it's not the whole story.
What were the specific benefits from the Saw Palmetto (combined with the beta sitosterol)?
- significantly increased urine flow
- less urine in the bladder afterwards
- increased volume of urine (meaning less urge to go until you really have to)
- and, a significant increase in free testosterone levels in the bloodstream
The VigRX Prostate Support has some beta sitosterol. But it seems to help the stinging nettle root work better. I expect this is the reason it works so well.
Also, notice the nice little perk of the increased testosterone. That's a plus. The beta sitosterol by itself doesn't do that. It's the nettle root combination WITH the beta sitosterol that does that.
3: Pumpkin Seed Extract

In a PubMed.Gov article (NIH) they reviewed pumpkin seed extract for treating symptoms of prostate enlargement.
In this study, they had a total of 60 men, average age of 62 with very high levels of symptoms. They received one dose daily of pumpkin seed extract, for 3 months.
This study was interesting because in addition to testing, they had the participants keep detailed diaries of their results. The conclusion?
After 12 weeks of pumpkin seed supplement, there was an average of over 30% reduction of symptoms. Less trips to the bathroom at night.
But they didn't just conclude these things based on the diaries of the participants. They measured urine content in the bladders of the participants. Results?
- An average of 30% reduction occurred:
- decreased nighttime urination;
- a great reduction of urine left in the bladder after urination
Bottom line: it seems Pumpkin Seed Extract has a great impact on reducing symptoms.
And next....
4: Pygeum Bark

The Pygeum tree grows in Africa. One of the interesting supplement ingredients is made from the bark of this tree.
A study on the NIH website looked at Pygeum Bark and found some interesting stuff. They did an analysis of various trials and combined the results.
In order for these trial results to be considered, they had to meet the following criteria:
- they had to be randomized trials;
- they had to be on men with enlarged prostates;
- they studied Pygeum compared to placebos or other prostate medications;
- they included measurable results as well as symptom scales and reports (ultrasound of the bladder, etc).
They looked at a total of 18 randomized, controlled trials including 1,562 men. 17 of the studies were double-blind studies. The average study duration was 64 days.
The result?
Compared to the placebo group, the men taking the Pygeum bark had a moderately LARGE improvement in combined outcome of better urine flow and reduced symptoms.
"Compared to men receiving placebo, Men using Pygeum africanum were more than twice as likely to report an improvement in overall symptoms."
- nighttime need to urinate was reduced by 19%
- residual urine volume by 24%
- peak urine flow was increased by 23%.
Sounds pretty conclusive and measurably better.
VigRX Prostate Support worked for me when Prostagenix and Super Beta Prostate did not.
I think this stuff is the bomb. It really is for me, anyway. And I truly believe it might just do the trick where products like Super Beta Prostate and Prostagenix have not worked for others.
And it comes with a 67-day money-back guarantee.
The CLEAR WINNER: VigRX Prostate Support. Because the studies show it doesn't just relieve symptoms. It has ingredients that actually help deal with the root cause of enlarged prostate.

This worked for me even when Prostagenix did not.
Is it expensive? Well, it's not cheap. But neither is the Prostagenix.
But in the words of a famous sales consultant (Zig Ziglar) "it's better to pay too much to get what you want, then not enough to get what you need."
And it's actually not as expensive as a lot of other brands only sold over the internet by review sites.
The fact is, if you compare costs to the big TV brands, you really DO get good value for your money with VigRX Prostate Support.
And if you click on the link and decide to purchase VigRX Prostate Support, I do receive a small commission for pointing you to the best product I've found. So that helps me offset the costs of running this web site.
So I encourage you to click on the big red button and try this stuff. It comes with a 67-day money-back guarantee.
Trust me. This might give you the help you've been looking for but never found in Super Beta Prostate and Prostagenix.
Thanks.
